PC Kindle viewer has been throwing errors with some books…

I have become more and more dependent on kindle books for both technical material and relaxation reading. I mostly read them using the app on my android phone and tablets. Lately I have been trying to use the windows application to read technical documents while working on my computer at home.

I’ve found that some books that display perfectly on my android devices give persist ‘delete and download again’ messages on the PC. No matter how often I try the process suggested by the app, I continue to get the error.

I have finally gotten around to sending a question to amazon kindle support about this problem and here is the email I received in reply (I will soon give this a try and let folks know whether it worked):

I apologize for the inconvenience caused to you while accessing books on your Kindle for PC.

Upon checking the details, I found that some of the books were not completely downloaded to your devices due to an error which usually happens when there are multiple download requests for the same book simultaneously. This may also affect other books being downloaded and that might be the reason why you are facing this issue. The below troubleshooting tips will help you fix the error.

Please reinstall the Kindle for PC app by following the instructions below:

1. Uninstall Kindle for PC
  A. Click to open your Windows Start menu, and then go to Control Panel > Programs and Features
  B. Right click on Amazon Kindle and select uninstall

2. Delete local app data
  A. Open the Start Menu and use the Search programs and files function to search for: "C:/Users/%username%/AppData/Local/Amazon/Kindle/Cache/Logs" (without quotation marks)
    a. If you are unable to find the folder you may need to enable hidden files. To do this go to Control Panel > Folder Options
    b. Click the View tab and click the box to show hidden files
  B. Logs are titled "1" and "2." Move them to the Desktop (or a temporary location that's easily found)
  C. Go back to C:/Users/%username%/AppData/Local/Amazon/Kindle/ which pulls up a Kindle folder. Open this folder and delete all of the content within it.

3. To reinstall Kindle for PC, visit this page to download and install the application www.amazon.com/kindleforpc
4. If the app runs as expected, copy your content files back into the My Kindle Content directory at “ C:/Users/%username%/Documents/My Kindle Content “ (without quotes).

If you’d like, you can also access most Kindle books on a PC or Mac using Kindle Cloud Reader. Kindle Cloud Reader is free, and allows you to access your Kindle content from a web browser. For more details about using Kindle Cloud Reader, see:
