Holidays are over…

The holidays are over and we’re into the cold and dark part of the year.

I got less technical stuff done over the week off than I had hoped but I think I worked through a few issues that needed to be dealt with. Expecting to move out on a number of fronts with the new year.

I’m going to try to post more regularly here in the coming year and improve my web presence going forward.

Thinking of splitting my blog from my photography and art content…

I’m finding that this blog gets rather mixed up. I’ve got my career blog for technical things and that works pretty well. I grabbed pandamallet a year or so ago as a place to put more artistic endeavors but so far have left it fallow.

At this point I think I’m going to transition photography and art-ish things over to pandamallet and use this blog as a pure blog.

I’d really like to get to the point where I’m posting something daily on one of the three sites. There’s enough going on to keep something percolating and I think the momentum would be helpful.

Stay tuned and as I get pandamallet set up I’ll post here and also make sure that the site landing page for ninecrows has a pointer over there. I really need to make up some business cards that have the site information on them sometime soon…

Not quite so old family photos…

The ‘mom stalking Roger Moore’ album…with a few other things…

This album contains many shots from a summer when a film starring Roger Moore was being shot in the York area. My mother spent much of her time that summer injecting herself into the process and lurking around the locations and places where the cast and crew were staying.

This does also have some of the early photos from around the time I met Lorna and some good shots of members of the family.

Almost done working through the available albums now. One smaller one and some very old post cards left…

Getting back to posting photos here…

I’ve spent the last few weeks dealing with care of my lightroom archives and cleaning up my old vacation archives (they tended to get shots from before and after mixed in along the way).

I’ve also been working through post-processing of some 2015 shots as Lorna is trying to wrap up scrapbooking that vacation.

I’m going to try to get back to working through vacation photos from our last trip and posting the highlights here later this week.

This stuff may still be a bit spotty as I’m also looking at getting some software development sandbox projects moving forward again (will show up in my career blog)  and that will be taking up some time along the way.

Maintenance of the LightRoom archive.

I’ve been running cleanup and restoration on my lightroom archives for a couple of weeks now. Takes a long time as things have become pretty huge.

I finally started experimenting with ‘export as catalog’ to strip out some of the bigger, cohesive sections to separate catalogs (mostly Disney trips so far). That went very well and I’ve got free-standing archives for all of our Disney experiences at this point. Probably still need a bit of cleaning, but most of the way there. Another Fine Plumbing Issue

When we came home there was a bit of water on the floor in the back basement. At the time I put it down to a big storm overwhelming my drain channel to the sump.

This evening I discovered otherwise…when then ran the water for our little master bathroom (presumably when they built the house) they used thin, curved water lines to get from the basement ceiling through to the walls to the second floor (there’s a pocket between the floor joists that is between the porch slab and the floor above that is very awkward to work in).

The cold water line developed a couple of leaks in the past and I’ve cut bits of it out and extended the half inch line that feeds it to compensate. This one (the hot) is a kicker though as the step down from half inch to the little stuff is further out and the leak is well inside the boxed in area.

Ugh!

This comes up into the front wall of the house in the entry way. I’m currently torn between salvaging the step-down (couldn’t buy new ones at home depot last time around so I reused the one I had) and then cutting the flex line above the leak and sweating it back together or hacking open the wall in the entry way and trying to re-fit this with a ninety degree elbow and in-line splice on up.

One is quicker if it works while the other seems like a better long term solution to the problem.

I’ll wind up deciding come morning….or if I try the quick route, reality may decide for me 🙂
