Pulled in by wargaming and an interest in the real events behind the games I was playing (at least for historical games). Fascinated by the interactions between technology, culture and doctrine that drove events (and often tragedy). I’ve since broadened out my interests and try to cover the broader spectrum of historical events.
Much of my library is military history. I’ve tended to focus on WW II and later and pre-revolutionary times. The intervening years had such a mismatch between the capabilities of the rapidly evolving technology of war and the strategic and tactical doctrines being played out that most actions seemed to turn into particularly bloody and often pointless meat grinders where victory came only when both sides were bled white.
