Nice to have internet and phone back up and running. It looks as if the old ONT we have doesn’t come back online reliably when power is lost. The tech suggested asking FairPoint to replace it with one of the newer models to save on costs of tech site visits…I’ll probably try that sometime soon.

We saw the new Thor movie and it was a lot of fun. Kept the humor in place and the chemistry between the characters was wonderful as usual with the Marvel movies.

Birthday weekend…doesn’t mean that much these days, but…

Looking forward to the upcoming Orlando trip with Alyssa and Jonathan coming along. Last chance to make this happen before Alyssa deploys and it looks like everything is going to line up this time.

Slow weekend from a sandbox coding perspective. Lots that is worth digging into…sometimes life gets in the way (and sometimes recharging is more important than coding). Read part of the way through the book on Haskell that I bought and I’m still not seeing the general usefulness of the view of functional programming that it presents.

It was a blustery night last night. It looks as if the power went out well before dawn and was still off when I headed for work this morning.

I let Frito out and checked the yard. No damage from a cursory look around. The trim ring from my old Corolla that had been sitting on the trunk was about twenty feet from the car though. Called NPR to donate the old Corolla over the weekend. Need to find the keys before they come to take the thing…I’d have sworn they were just sitting on the desk…but they’re not readily to hand.

Finished updating my resume over the weekend. I think the new, slimmer for works pretty well (here). Not particularly worried about things at KMC (I think I deliver good value for money) but I’ve learned to keep things up to date and keep my profile up…who knows what might come along.

Mostly a weekend of working on the house (aside from the resume stuff). Patched the opening in the hall wall that I cut to fix a plumbing issue and taped and mudded the seams. Added another layer to the patch on the ceiling in the hall that didn’t turn out well when I first fixed it up. All of the sheetrock compound is still drying so I’ll probably sand things tonight (assuming that power is back on).

Still too much to learn on the software front 🙂 Got to get moving on the web/javascript/self-hosted side. Also want to knock the rust off my WPF as there is some work side tooling that would probably go together best using that sort of GUI front end.

My sister is looking at getting more involved in the technical aspects of video and the web so I decided to take a quick lunch time look at editing software that is free or cheap for video.

I don’t currently do much video…mostly SLR grade still photography so this is a new are for me. I did find an interesting review of free-ish packages at techradar (from 2017 so pretty recent).

Our friends Sherrill and Ed had a cookout on Saturday and I took some shots from the edge of the river behind their house (and into their fire-pit)…

Last fall I brought my old Star Fleet Battles board-game p to date. I love that game when I was in high school and college and when I saw that the company was still in business I dove right in.

I picked up most of the modules that were out there, but in the end stopped short of this last bit as I had already spent quite a bit.

I’ve been sad to see how few of the board games and associated companies have survived from that era. I did updated my copy of starfire as well on the theory that I’d regret it if I didn’t and later the company went away (this game is interesting but I’ve never had the time to try playing it).

It has been some time so I’m filling in the last major gap…now I just need to find time and opponents (though I really want to just run through the game on my own a time or two first to refamiliarize thus the time thing)
