I am interested in computer games both as something to play and for the potential creativity in creating them.

I have never pursued the development of game software because what I’ve seen of the game industry suggests that working in that area is neither pleasant or particularly rewarding for the technical talent involved. I suspect that part of this comes from the fact that so many people are excited to be working in the field and companies have realized that they don’t have to treat their developers well in order to get the job done. That being said, I’ve tended to keep an eye on the relevant technologies and dabble now and again with small personal projects.
