Looking forward to getting a less explosive Note 7 today

According to Verizon, today is the day that my local store will have less flammable Note 7 phones to exchange for my current more flammable version. Looking forward to it as I really like the phone (stylus, large screen and micro-SD card meet most of my wants). I’m guessing that Samsung is regretting skipping the last item on my list, the removable (and thus replaceable) battery.

My existing Note 7 has been of limited usefulness for the  last couple of weeks as I inadvertently did a factory reset on it when I removed it from its case to take the SD card out in anticipation of getting it replaced. It hasn’t made sense to go through the work of fully re-configuring it  since then as it was scheduled to be replaced in short order.

Hoping all goes smoothly though the local store didn’t have the new phones in hand as of yesterday and had only vague guesses about timing and availability today. My wife volunteered to go over this morning with my current phone and try to get the replacement. I really have no idea whether this is going to be a horde of Note 7 enthusiasts clamoring at the door for their new phone or a non-event where she walks into a mostly empty store and gets the swap done with no drama whatsoever…we’ll see soon enough.

  1. So Verizon appears to have had ten phones at the Londonderry store yesterday (when they told me on the phone that they had none). They have none today and no idea when they’ll have more. The manager indicated that they’ll call us when more come in and hold one for us. Not feeling the love there though as they said they’d call or message when they knew the timing of replacements and I had to call them to get any information. I think I’ll be calling them at least once a day from here on in until I have a replacement phone. Not happy with Verizon, but this is certainly consistent with their reputation for breathtakingly poor customer service.
