I need to look into better lighting for indoor shots…

CrowsIconI’m finding that my web sites here want quite a few good shots of various mundane items to improve the look of the pages and tell the tales I want to tell.

I currently have a single, large flash (580ex II) that mounts in the shoe on my camera. This isn’t too bad for the occasional shot in a  room, bouncing off of the ceiling.

Moving to ‘shots of stuff’ I have used simple shop style reflector lamps in the past…and have been at least somewhat disappointed in the results.

This has me seriously considering at least a couple of light stands and some sort of off-camera lighting. I’m not sure about the details…need to do some more research on this front but any advice is welcome.

I’m trying to get more of my interests and hobbies into my personal site. This is going to involve pictures of bookshelves, games and other related bits both as primary content and as accent pieces around the site (icons, eye catchers on posts and such).

On my career site I’m looking for usable icons and eye catchers that fit the various sorts of content I will be putting up there as time goes by. Articles without some visually interesting images aren’t all that eye catching and tend not to port well over to other sites (FB, LinkedIn, Twitter).
